President’s Message
The Wisconsin Angus Association (WAA) is a member-owned cooperative for the purposes of 1) promoting the Angus breed at both the state and national levels; 2) acting as a networking resource for information regarding Angus cattle and locating Wisconsin breeders; and 3) encouraging juniors to participate in Angus projects. In short, our purpose is to connect Angus breeders, commercial cattlemen interested in Angus foundational genetics and work to ensure the future of the Angus breed through our Juniors.
We, as Angus breeders, must work together to embrace these goals and find our common purpose as an Association, regardless of our herd size or our location. We can accomplish this remembering some simple principles that attracted many of us to this breed in the first place; Participation, Informed breeding selections and Welcoming newcomers, especially our youth. In doing so, we build a stronger Angus community in the Badger State.
As the newly elected President of the WAA, my goals for our Association include membership growth, connecting breeders with ALL cattlemen and encouraging sound breeding decisions to ensure the future of the breed. This year, you can expect to see more proactive communication using email, our web site and a revitalized newsletter. Frequent visits to www.wisconsinangus.org will provide you the most up to date information regarding sale dates and locations, show schedules and junior news. New this year will be a map showing you the location of Angus breeders in our state.
It is my honor to serve you as President this year. I encourage you to share your ideas or concerns about our Association with me or any of our board members. We have a strong group this year. Working together, we expect to add value to Angus breeders throughout Wisconsin and continue to make our Association stronger.
Respectfully,
Jim Hawthorne
American Angus Association Offers Resources 24/7
Users of Angus genetics can access information at their fingertips any time day or night, save time and avoid the paper trail by utilizing AAA Login, an online resource provided by the American Angus Association (AAA).
More than half of active AAA members already use AAA Login, available to anyone with Internet access, including non-member buyers, known as affiliates, who have Angus bulls or females transferred to their name, Affiliates are typically commercial cattle producers who use Angus genetics.
AAA Login is simple to use, members or affiliates create their own profile by clicking on AAA Login in the upper-left hand corner of the Angus home page, www.angus.org. Once a user creates his or her profile, a unique password will be generated for him or her and sent to the e-mail provided; at that time the user can customize a private password.
Some of the services that affiliates can take advantage of include easy access to their registered herds performance records, EPD updates, the ability to clean up their herd inventory, transferring cattle to another buyer, and Customizable $Vaule Indexes. In addition, if the affiliate's commercial cow herd, Angus, Angus-cross or other breed is enrolled in the Beef Record System (BRS), AAA Login gives instant access to his or her cow production records.
"The customizable reports available in AAA Login are a great tool for all producers," Laughlin says. AAA Login is just one of many tools available to nearly 33,000 American Angus Association members and those commercial cattle producers who use Angus genetics. For more about Association program or the Angus breed, go to www.angus.org.
